$6,999 – Elko, MN:
“The time has come, another project is in the midst, and I’m considering selling my 2001 A6/S6 4.2.
Started life as a 4.2L V8 Automatic (as all the V8 cars were). The 6-speed was swapped by the previous owner using all 2.7T 01E C5 A6 components, S6 cluster installed at that time. This last spring the engine was removed and an S6 4.2L (340bhp) was installed, so that’s basically how it sits now. Essentially it was made to mimic what the European market got as a standard S6.
In the last 8,000 miles;
-Fresh timing belt and components
-Cam chain tensioner pads replaced
-New clutch
-New solid flywheel
-New engine mounts
-New trans mounts
-Porsche 18Z brake conversion using ML55 AMG rotors and Brembo OE pad set
-Stud conversion
-All 8 front control arms
-Rear wheel bearings
-All fluids.
-Sport front seats, although they don’t have heating grids.The bad:
Right head light has moisture in it. The HID ballasts get finicky in the cold. The right side mirror glass has the usual etching. The paint needs some TLC. The Exhaust needs some lovinIf you’re looking for AWD, a manual trans, and a torquey engine, this is pretty ideal. My original reasoning for buying this car was because I wanted a V8 and Quattro and knew how unreliable the timing chain S4 engines were.
The car has some kinks like anything this age with a similar swap. Car is being sold with the 18” Sport Edition Wheels with 245/40R18 snows. Other wheels shown have been sold as I was originally planning on buying a new summer set come spring.
