$2,000 – Farmington, NM:

“I am helping my mom sell her 1965 Renault 10 that she inherited from my grandparents. The car has a clean New Mexico Title and is located in the Farmington New Mexico area. The car will need to be picked up and trailered out as it has been sitting for years. We are asking $2,000 or the best offer.

I have a background in restoring classic muscle cars and building race cars so I agreed to help her sell this one. With this in mind, I have listed as much as I know about this car based on what I look for when buying a Mustang, Camaro, or Trans am.

The car is complete with a few minor dings but nothing serious. The only substantial dent is in the photos and doesn’t interfere with the operation of the door. All the glass is there, but there is a crack in the windshield. Last time I looked at it there were no signs of water leaks into the interior of the car. All rust is surface only, as this car was parked under a shade tree for about 30 years. The interior upholstery and weather-stripping are shot from dry rot. The car would run and drive when parked with 60 miles on an overhauled engine and tranny. I believe my grandfather said they had sleeved the engine when they rebuilt it.

I do remember there was a water leak into the trunk area. My grandfather drilled a small hole at the bottom of the spare tire well for any rain water to drain without causing a problem. My grandfather was worried he had drilled into the fuel tank, and I didn’t know at the time that the tank was not below the spare tire.

About 15 years ago we flushed the block and changed the oil. We were running the engine from a gas can, but it fired right up and purred like a kitten after sitting for 20 years. All the vital points were plugged with rags to keep the muck out of the engine and fuel tank. I believe the air cleaner (air filter & ect.) is in the trunk, but we don’t remember how to get it open to verify. At that time we were looking at getting the upholstery done, tires and a quick paint job so I would have a reliable car to get to and from work and school. However, I was a full time college student and working so I had to take a less time intensive car option.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional information.

Have a great day!!
