$17,900 – Sterling, IL:
“Introduced in 1984, the W124 was Mercedes Benz’s all new midsize model that replaced the much loved W123. Featuring all new aerodynamic styling by the renowned Bruno Sacco, the new model offered the latest and greatest in safety, technology, and handling. Featuring the new five link rear suspension that is still in use today, the W124 has one of the lowest levels of drag by a passenger car and was available as a sedan, coupe, wagon, and convertible. Known as the A124, the convertible was a spectacle of engineering and featured a redeveloped body structure and an impressive hand built convertible top made with the finest materials. The Cabriolets were extremely pricey when new (~$80K) and still hold incredible levels of value that is only increasing today. This is a hand built Mercedes; this car will only go up in value. With only ~6K of these cars sold over a three year period and being the first MB convertible sedan since 1971, the 1995 E320 Cabriolet is becoming very sought after.
I have owned this stunning 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Convertible Cabriolet since 2010. Due to other commitments, I have only driven it for ~13K miles during the last 8 years. The car has a unique rear head restraint system that automatically engages when a rollover is detected. The body is in excellent condition, the top is good but shows minimal wear at the fold points, the interior original leather is in good condition except for some cracks in the driver’s seat; the car has heated seats, power windows and locks, cruise-control, Pioneer Bluetooth radio (upgraded factory OEM radio is available) & still has the original books & tool-roll.
The original owner, located in Austin, TX, had the car converted by RennTech in April 1999 (at 77K miles) to AMG specs at a cost of $32K:
—3.6 liter displacement, 281 HP (up from 3.2 liter, 217 HP)
—Limited slip differential upgrade
—Lowered RennTech suspension
A second owner kept the car in TX for about a year and sold it to an Illinois car collector who kept it for 3 years without registering it. It was driven for 2 years and traded to a dealer from whom I purchased the car. I have reconstructed the ownership record and have most maintenance receipts starting with 1999. In 2013 I had the convertible top hydraulics rebuild ($5300) and the main heater control valve replaced ($1100).
