$2,500 – Pine Beach, NJ:

“So I’ve got a 1987 Escort GT race car. The car was originally an SCCA ITB car that was professionally built by a race car builder out in Nebraska. I have all the original SCCA log books and literature on the car from back in the day. I got it from a NASA driving instructor who used it for hill climbs. I bought it to go circle track racing with, but it would be great for autocross, or any type of racing.

When I got it, I had the cage updated by my fabricator who builds stock cars to bring it up to spec for the tracks that I race at. It is really safe. It was well built to begin with but I had a bunch of bars and plating added. The cage is 1 1/2 inch tubing and has full door bars on both sides, driver’s side is plated with 1/8” plate, petty bar, window bars around the seat area, windshield center bar, halo center bar rear upright bars. The car has a Kirkey aluminum seat and a 5 point harness with 8/2016 date on it. It also has a racing steering wheel with with detachable hub, fire bottle, and lexan windshield. The car also has 50 pounds of lead ballast added to the left side through a trap door in the rocker panel.

As for suspension, The front has custom camber plates, with a brand new custom made strut bar, and a custom made coil over shock setup. For this season, I reinforced the top of the strut towers with 3/16 plate to eliminate any flex. The strut bar is made from a length of swedged aluminum tube which is bolted to fixed mounts between the towers. It has a turnbuckle system so you can adjust the tension on the strut brace. The coil overs utilize a strut tube setup and have brand new koni adjustable racing shocks that would fit a 76 rabbit. I run 8 x 2.5 inch coil springs with different weights depending on what type of racing I’m doing. The suspension is fully adjustable and ride height can be set by turning the adjusters on the collars of the strut tubes. The whole front suspension is brand new including MOOG control arms and bushings. I have a bunch of front springs to go with the car.

I added power steering to the car this year. It has a brand new re-manufactured rack, new inner and outer tie rods, pump, and NOS reservoir which was really hard to find. I also had custom made power steering lines made up with special (and expensive) aircraft fittings. I kept the manual rack so if you want to go back to manual steering you can.

The rear suspension is currently set up with koni adjustable shocks, camber bolts, and cut down front springs from a 96 mustang cobra that fit real nice. It also has a fat 9/16 sway bar on the rear. I have a bunch of stock springs to go with the car.

As for the engine, the current unit installed is a race prepped 1.9 HO that was professionally built by a ford tech for drag racing. As far as I remember, it was bored 20 over has resized rods and a bunch of machine work done to it. It also has the Motorsport cam sprocket and header. I have a spec sheet on the motor somewhere. I have the original motor for the car which was also professionally built. That motor is 25 over I believe and a bunch of machine work done to it also. That one runs, has good compression, and oil pressure, but I was curious to see what the other motor would do. I’m currently running an RJS-AE code 4 speed with 3.52 ring and pinion for circle track racing. I have 2 5 speeds that go with the car so you have a choice of transmissions to run.

As for wheels, I currently have a set of 14×7 stock car wheels on the car that were custom made by my wheel guy. 4 inch offset on the inside, 2 inch offset on the outside. I also have 2 more inside wheels and I do have 2 more outside wheels that I dropped off at my wheel guy a while ago that I was going to have re-lipped. The car has a good set of Hoosier 790’s on it right now. I also have a set of 15×7 GT wheels with Dunlop DOT racing tires on them however the tires do have some cracks between the treads.

As for spares, I have a ton of them. I have crates full of brand new suspension and brake parts, used springs, front and rear suspension parts, 2 GT grilles, 3 or 4 sets of coupe headlights, rear hatch glass, ECM’s, MAF’s, complete shifter with linkage, headlights, spare fender, hood, 2 radiators, sway bars, and a lot more.

As for price, I was looking to get $2500 for everything. You get everything Escort related. There are enough spares to keep this car running for a long time, provided it doesn’t get wrecked beyond repair.

Also, this is a race car and has no title. It is not street legal and will only come with a bill of sale.
