“Up for sale is a pretty rare 1997 turbo diesel B4 Passat Tdi wagon that has low miles (149,000) and recent timing belt service complete. It has a clean title and registration is valid till 8/2019.
It was my daily driver for a few years; runs and drives fine however has developed a faint ticking noise that seems to be isolated to the engine (possibly head or injectors) at idle and low speeds (see linked video). It is an economical car that is a bit rough around the edges and could be used as is or for a parts car. Since this is such a rare vehicle I would like it to go to a good home or good use.

I have various new parts and spares (listed below) that I put in significant effort to acquire that I will include in the price.
It’s a burgundy color but not exactly pretty with clear coat peeling in areas and a missing side door trim piece as well as a few little dings and one larger dent on the back hatch from the previous owners. It was originally a Texas vehicle and probably sat out in the dry hot Texas sun hence the peeling clear coat, but it is rust free! Some more details below.
The good:
– Low miles, rust free, drives
– New battery in 2018
– New Hella oem headlights & side markers (passengers side not installed)
– New timing belt @ 124,500 miles, so it has >50k left on it. All fluids water pump and drive belts replaced at same time
– All glow plugs working and glow plug relay replaced within last 20k miles
– Fan speed regulator switch replaced within last 20k miles.
– Great tires with approximately 20k remaining.
– Good trim pieces and extra tail lights from another wagon
-AC and heat work well
– Clean title and registration good for 11 more months.
-New rear hatch shocksThe bad:
-Engine tick
-Dash instrument cluster went out at ~135k miles but still records miles to total. Trip odo works as well but speed and tach are not working.
-Aesthetics; peeling clear coat and dings
-Wear on interior seats
-Drivers side window actuator broken
-Driver side rear door handle not opening
