$13,500 – Sparta, NJ:
“Offered for sale is a 1988 Panther Kallista convertible roadster.
The Panther Kallista was designed by Robert Jankel and was factory-assembled by Panther Westwinds in its factory on the grounds of the Brooklands race circuit in England. The Panther Car Company was a low volume hand-crafted builder of vehicles styled after the vintage classic cars of 1930s.
The Kallista, which was named after the Greek word meaning ‘small and beautiful’, was built beginning in 1983 and imported into the United States beginning in 1985 carrying a sticker price of $23,500. It’s award winning bodywork (award badge is riveted to the driver side door frame) is made entirely of aluminum. The US version, known as the ‘Federal’ Kallista, sported double bumper to meet the federal safety laws and was powered by a 2.3 liter Ford engine from its Lima, Ohio plant, used in Ford Escort and Mustang models, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.
This Kallista offered for sale features a handsome metallic version of British Racing Green paint. The convertible top was replaced 4 years ago and is in excellent condition. The spoked wire wheels, including a full-size spare, are in very good condition with tires that have plenty of life left. Original tan bucket seats are good, with the driver’s side showing some wear. Black carpets were also replaced four years ago. The brightwork is similarly in very good condition.
The car is offered with a lot of extras. It comes with original tonneau used to cover the convertible top when folded. I have also installed a RS Quick Cover, custom-made by Ray Smith of RS Sewing Solutions in St. Austell, England which, in addition to covering the folded top allows me to quickly cover the entire cockpit when parked without raising the soft top. The sale also includes a protective cover that can be placed over the raised top, protecting it and the interior against rain and sun glare. Also included is a Panther Car Club DVD which contains user and parts manuals and a wealth of information about the Panther Car Company and the vehicles they produced.
Overall, this Panther Kallista presents very nicely in spite of a few visible stone chips – please see photos for details. I can hardly take it for a ride without getting compliments when stopped at traffic lights. Engine starts without a trouble and runs smoothly, and the car is ready to be enjoyed. Odometer shows approximately 17,000 original miles. The car is a solid #3 condition driver, currently valued by Hagerty at $15,500. I am offering it for sale for $13,500 including all the mentioned extras and some other spare parts.
