$8,000 – Canton, CT:
“Up for sale is my 1968 Mercedes Benz Unimog 411.120 Westfalia. It has approximately 5000 miles and 2700 hours, off the top of my head. This is a smaller series of Unimog which is approximately the footprint of a jeep wrangler, but much more capable. I have had it for a couple of years and it has been a slow-going project. The body and frame are unusually solid since someone took the time to paint the frame up nice years ago. It is a highly optioned AG Spec truck with the following options:
Portal Axles with front and rear locking differentials
6 speed transmission with 2 speed reverse
2 speed low range crawler box
18” wheels with agricultural tires
3 way dump/tipper bed – missing cylinder
Rear hydraulic lift/3 point hitch – uninstalled – missing 3 point linkage and arms
Front and rear PTO
Hydraulic steering
2 circuit Rear Remote Hydraulics
inline coolant heater
Snorkel
Cab heaterThe truck has new (within the past year) pencil style glow plugs, battery, battery cables and grounds, rebuilt starter, dual fuel filter elements, injection pump primer, silicone coolant hoses/couplers, thermostat, coolant, head gasket, and rebuilt injectors
It runs, drives, and stops but is a project and needs to be gone through. The brakes are a tight from sitting, they will probably ease up with use but should be looked over. The wiring and charging system is a mess – I bought an aftermarket diesel wiring kit with fuse block but have not yet installed it. The engine had low compression when I got it, so I pulled the head and replaced the blown head gasket – At that time I noticed that all 4 pistons had spider cracks starting from the center – my guess is someone had used ether to start this truck once the head gasket starting failing. Still runs and drives, but smokes. I was told by the OM636 guru in England that this engine will likely run for a long time in this condition, so I reassembled it to get it mobile again. Smoke is probably a timing issue, unrelated to engine condition. Coil springs need to be replaced as they are currently solid pipes from when this truck had a boom on the back of it and needed stability. Throttle pedal needs to be hooked back up (only hand throttle works currently). Engine needs new belts to run generator and hydraulic pumps. Needs a general once-over
Uninstalled Extras included:
4 new coil springs (HD Expedition)
used set of injectors
misc fuel filters and housings
extra set of pencil style glow plugs
One complete OM636 engine, assembled except for injectors and glow plugs – ready to swap in
One complete OM636 engine, remanufactured at some point but has been disassembled but is complete
Universal Diesel wiring hardness and fuse block
Remainder of engine gasket set – had to import from England
Rear 3 point lift cylinder and arms, very rare
rebuilt throttle pedal pivot and linkageI am selling since I’ve lost interest and don’t have storage or garage space this winter to work on it. I would like to see it go to someone who will get it fully operational again rather than let it sit. The brunt of the issues would be solved by swapping in the other complete engine and giving it some general TLC. Yes you read right, this comes with 3 engines including the one in the truck which are VERY hard to find. Diesel Unimogs are more sought after and hold their value better than gas 404 models. This is your opportunity to buy into a diesel Unimog project at an affordable price. I am mainly looking for cash but would consider trades for interesting motorcycles, other diesel Unimogs (406 and up) bobcat attachments, snowcat, mini excavator, etc
$8000 obo. This truck will be sold with a Bill of Sale. Located in Canton, CT 06019
