$9,500 – Santa Rosa, CA:

“It’s been a difficult decision but I have decided to put my “Blu-nicorn” up for sale. Is is an ’87 cargo van that was converted in San Diego by Country Homes. They put in the windows and the pop top, no kitchen just a bench seat in the back. I have had this van for a couple of years now and I got it from the original owner. It needed a lot of work when I got it. First it took some electrical work to get it running. Once it was running I dove all in and went for the engine rebuild as well as all the other items when you’re at that stage. I poured a lot of money in to getting it running, and it is running great now. I have been driving it weekly mostly around town with a handful of trips and it has been great. It is ready for phase two which is the build out of the interior. My partner and I had grand plans to gut it, add insulation and laminate flooring and build a bed with storage underneath. After putting that next phase off to think about it I think I’m ready to move on to a new vehicle and spend my free time on trips and not building it out. SO it is ready to go to the next family and ready to go on some new adventures. Like I said, mechanically the van is tip top. Cosmetic and comfort items are what is on the list. Odo reads 269,535 and I had major work done (listed below) to it when I got it with 266,xxx miles. I have records for all the work I have had done (with the exception of the exhaust work but I can get paperwork if needed).

1987 Toyota Van (Cargo Van)
4YEC engine
4wd hi/lo
5 spd. manual transmission
pop top camper conversion

Most of the items below were done at the time of the engine overhaul (3/17/2017 266,606 miles). After that I was chasing a vaccum leak which led to a new MAF sensor, throttle position sensor, O2 sensor, intake manifold gasket and replacing a section of heater hose.

Distributor cap
Distributor rotor
radiator hose
ignition wire set
radiator coolant hose
engine valve cover gasket set
water pump
drive belt air conditioning and idler
parking brake cable
fuel injector seal kit
all new fuel injectors
exhaust manifold (used)
intake manifold (OEM new)
motor mount
Long block
serpentine belt fan and alternator
drive belt power steering
all new hoses including hose of death
brand new custom radiator
90% of the exhaust system replaced
O2 sensor
throttle position sensor
air filter
new battery less than 1,000 miles ago

Since I had the vaccum leak figured out there has been no reason to take it into the shop, no warning lights, no issues what so ever.
I bought a second set of wheels (Suzuki Samurai wheels which were sanded a painted matte black) and had brand new Pirelli Scorpions mounted 2,800 miles ago. The stock wheels have Hankook studded tires on them, so van comes with two wheel sets. The Samurai wheels are a little bit bigger and rub the front fenders on steep driveways.

Pop top:
we replaced the pop top seal with the appropriate seal kit with the recommended parts from Country Homes as well as the rear two latches. Overall it is in good shape, the screen has been patched in a couple spots but its all water tight.

The engines in these vans were designed to be low maintenance and go for many, many miles. They are more powerful and more reliable than the VW engines, this van can cruise at 70 comfortably on the freeway and has no trouble getting over mountain passes. More rare than the Vanagon, yet Vanagons are selling for $$$. Clean title in hand. Asking $9,500.

If this post is live the van is available. Don’t email asking if it is available. Please read the entire post before asking questions. Spammer/scammers/low ball offers will be ignored. I live in So. Oregon but can meet or drive to the bay area for a serious buyer. Feel free inquire about more info or pictures.
