$7,500 – Huntsville, AL:

“Selling my 1997 BMW M3. I’ve owned it since October, 2014, this is a lifelong southern/California car. It’s been in Huntsville since 2001 and I know all previous adult owners. The car has never been modified, tracked, or driven hard. I’m a BMW CCA member, this is my second E36, and my 8th BMW overall (my daily is a X1). I’d love to keep it, but an upcoming move means I’ll need to store it for years, and I don’t want it to go to waste.

Here’s what’s good about it:

Unmolested, adult owned, and garage kept for over 15 years.

Extensive service records since 1996. Every oil change, repair, and nut and bolt added is documented in a 1.5” thick binder. Recent work includes a new cooling system in 2016, new rear tires earlier this year. Oil has been changed whenever the SI lights come on with Mobil 1, Vanos was rebuilt, shift bushings have been refurbished. Over the years if it’s needed attention, it was taken care of.

Factory luxury package (one of only ~200 made in this color combo in 1997)

Lowered on H&R springs with a Dinan stage 1 suspension

Genuine BMW cross brace from a convertible added

Known issues:

The paint is original and has plenty of stone chips, with a little fading on the spoiler. (I’ve kept it as is to maintain everything factory.)

Power steering line leak (I replaced the low pressure hoses and reservior, but it’s now one of the unions on the main high pressure line is leaking)

Airbag light is on (the occupancy sensor in the passenger seat is bad)

Intermittent ASC light (likely a wheel sensor, I’ve ignored this)

A/C blows cool but it can’t keep up with the Alabama heat (this is typical of old German air, my E34s did the same thing, 80 is a hot day in Munich)

Aftermarket radio amplifier is on the fritz

Sunroof tilt function only works intermittently (it slides back and forth fine

Interior wear (wood trim is hazy, seam separating on the driver’s seat, worn floormats–again they’re all factory and I don’t want to risk a botched restoration)

Overall it’s a solid driver, a great candidate to restore, or add in a roll cage and start autocrossing (actually please don’t do this, there are plenty of bashed examples out there, or put a S52 from a wrecked automatic convertible into a 318ti if you must go that route 🙂 )
10/1996 build date, I’ve had it since 172k miles, and added nearly 30k. It’s amazingly reliable for a nearly 22 year old car. We took it on a 7500 mile round trip to Quebec in late 2016 and it didn’t miss a beat. These are getting rarer and rarer, and in a world of coming electric cars, the sound of this straight 6 and the clanking of the gears will put a smile on your face every time you turn the key.

I work from home in Jones Valley and I’m glad to show it anytime.
