$800 – Gurnee, IL:
“I have too many projects, so something needs to go. Selling my red/beige Subaru lsi. This is a great winter car as it’s all wheel drive, with ABS and is low, and wide. That said, it’s a project, that I put a few thousand dollars into, but that still needs work. I replaced the timing belt, water pump, pulleys, tensioner, and all the timing covers. Next was the starter, radiator, and alternator. Then installed a decent aftermarket stereo and 18” wheels. The windshield is cracked, but I am including a replacement windshield as well as a pair of door windows (These are prone to getting scratches from something inside the door, so when I found a nice pair in the junkyard, I grabbed them). I just installed all new Halogen headlight and driving light bulbs which cost a couple hundred dollars. I’ll also include some new parts that I never got around to installing, including new brakes.
This is the lsi model so it includes leather interior and sunroof. Of course it has a few dings and the only rust is some bubbling above the rear wheels. It’s a really interesting and fun car, and the prices on these are finally starting to appreciate. Unfortunately, as a Subaru, it now also needs the head gasket replaced. Replacing the head gasket on subarus is fairly routine, and can be done in a weekend if you have the tools. This would make a fun father/son project and in the end, you’ll have a fun, safe, and interesting car.
I’ve had people run up at gas stations asking what it is because they are really kind of rare, and its Italian design has stood the test of time pretty well. Only around 10,000 sold in the USA as it was intended to be Subaru’s flagship, luxury sports car. As it’s a 96, its computer is OBD2 and the A/C uses R134 and blows cold.
